Norfolk, Newport News, and Roanoke, Virginia
Police continue to investigate and a family mourns the passing of a small child that ran out on to Wickman Avenue & 28th Street, across from Doris Miller Community Center, and was struck and killed. The child was 2 years old and had to be air lifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, was he later passed. The family & friends believe the child climbed over a railing around the porch and trying to access a playground at the nearby Doris Mills Community Center across the street. The screams were heard from an off duty police officer at the center and several others as they rushed to the scene to assist. Police are still investigating on how the child was able to climb over the railing & who was attending to the child. No charges have been filed against the driver, as of today. This is such a tragedy for this community.
Please be aware of your travels this summer’s kids are out and about playing. There is a surge in pedestrian traffic this year as people take morning and evening strolls in their neighborhoods. Many neighborhoods in Hampton Roads, are rural and do not have sidewalks. Please obey the speed limits when driving through neighborhoods and watch for bikes on the ground. Bikes on the ground unattended on sidewalks usually mean kids are somewhere nearby playing. Be safe this summer from your friends at Kalfus & Nachman.
