Driver in Fatal Sandbridge Road Car Accident Smelled of Alcohol

Norfolk, Newport News, and Roanoke, Virginia

According to a Virginia Beach Circuit Court affidavit, alcohol may have been a contributing factor in a deadly Virginia Beach car accident that occurred last week on Sandbridge Road. A 38-year-old woman driving a 2002 Nissan Sentra drove onto the shoulder of the road, then over-corrected, causing a collision with a 2013 Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck.

When a firefighter arrived at the scene of the wreck, he stated that the driver of the Nissan smelled of alcohol. Evidence at the scene also revealed that the Sentra driver was traveling 62mph immediately before the crash, in a 35mph zone.

Two adults in the Tacoma were injured. The potentially intoxicated driver of the Sentra died in the wreck, along with three children. Three other children were left with serious injuries after the accident.

Online court records reveal that the driver of the Sentra has been convicted of several other driving-related offenses in the past 10 years, including a DWI conviction in 2011. To confirm whether or not she was intoxicated at the time of the accident, blood tests will be performed using vials collected at Sentara Princess Anne hospital following the crash.
