What to Do After a Car Accident

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

If you are involved in a car accident, the most important thing is to remain calm. You may be disoriented, even if you did not lose consciousness. If anyone involved in your motor vehicle accident is injured, you should call an ambulance. Then, once the dust has settled and everyone has received medical treatment, there are certain things you should make sure you do at the scene.

Car accidents are scary and can be traumatic. At the Virginia law firm of Kalfus & Nachman, our experienced and caring attorneys know this is a difficult time and are dedicated to winning you the money you deserve.

What to Do After Your Accident

After you call for medical assistance, your next call should be to the police. Officers will take statements and investigate the way each vehicle came to rest to piece together what happened. They will want witness testimony, so if anyone saw the accident, be sure to get their contact information so the police can call them later.

Never admit fault, nor apologize (this can be misinterpreted as admitting you caused the accident). However, be sure not to fabricate the truth no matter how embarrassing. If you change your story later, this may hurt your ability to win damages.

Exchange all pertinent information with the other parties involved. This includes:

  • Name, address, phone number
  • Insurance company, policy number
  • License plate number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Car year, make and model

Also write down the investigating officer’s name and contact information for future reference. His or her report will not be available at the scene, but several days later.

If you have suffered a car accident and live in the Norfolk, Hampton, Newport News, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach or Roanoke, Virginia area, please contact the Virginia personal injury lawyers at Kalfus & Nachman to arrange your no-cost consultation.

5th Annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Today at Kalfus & Nachman we are observing Annual World Elder Abuse Day. The event is being organized by NCEA (National Center on Elder Abuse), directed by the U.W. Administration on Aging, which launched a campaign in 2005 (Join Us in the Fight Against Elder Abuse). This campaign will be featured at movie theaters around the US through from May 28th - June 24th, 2010. Here in the US the day is focused on education and heightening awareness as more and more Americans are becoming seniors.

To help in spreading the word, we are sharing with our bloggers the significance of reporting elder abuse. Many elderly individuals are sensitive to their immediate caretakers and would never confide with anyone on the caretakers abuse against them. Instead, they live in fear and tolerate the pain and mental anguish.

If you suspecy elder abuse in any Virginia elder care facility, please contact Kalfus & Nachman online to schedule a consultation. Kalfus & Nachman elder abuse lawyers serves Norfolk, Hampton, Newport News, Portsmouth, Roanoke, Virginia Beach.
