Attorney J. Brian Slaughter represents people who suffer injuries at work and pursue claims under the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Act. He brings a wealth of relevant experience, from representing injured workers to representing employers and insurers, and from his work as a Staff Attorney at the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission in Richmond. In addition to his work as a litigator, he is an experienced mediator - - training and experience that is invaluable in helping people settle their claims. Slaughter received a double degree in Government and Economics in 1992 from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, and his law degree in 1995 from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. He practiced in Huntsville, Alabama until 1999, when he returned to his home state of Virginia. He has practiced in Virginia since 1999. In 2012, he received an “AV” or “Preeminent” peer-review rating from Martindale-Hubbell, signifying the “highest possible rating in both legal ability and ethical standards.”
Mr. Slaughter focuses his practice on the handling and litigation of Virginia workers’ compensation claims. He is a frequent presenter at seminars on workers’ compensation. In addition to workers’ compensation, Mr. Slaughter has tried jury cases in a variety of venues and handled cases in different subject areas of the law, including personal injury, construction defects, product liability and toxic tort litigation including asbestos, mold and Chinese drywall. Mr. Slaughter lives in Virginia Beach with his wife and five kids and enjoys doing home renovation projects in his spare time.
